Regarding Hellboy
(Beware spoilers)
I'm not familiar with the Hellboy comics at all, so I can't compare them to the movie. But I don't really think that matters. The movie explains everything well enough that you don't have to know anything about it previously.
Hellboy himself is one of the most charming heroes I've ever watched. Adorable and burly and all around a nice guy. It's too bad I couldn't catch his real name at the end -- it was probably something totally awesome. =P
Abe Sapien was pretty cool, too. I love David Hyde Pierce's voice, and I thought his delivery of the lines was perfect.
I couldn't really make myself feel much for Liz Sherman or the young FBI guy, though. Neither really stood out for me. I'm hoping that they'll get to me more in the inevitable sequel(s).
The story had several holes and inconsistencies, but I didn't mind at all. The movie is so entertaining that as long as you can shut that nagging part of your brain off for a little over two hours, you'll love it despite the flaws.
Coolest things/scenes:
(1) Kroenen and his swords. Most awesome.
(2) Hellboy's feelings for Liz and his letters to her. Adorable stuff.
(3) Hellboy's talk with the 9-year old on the roof during Liz's date.
(4) The scene at the end in which Hellboy has to choose between being who he was born to be and being who he was raised to be. Totally predictable, but I liked it anyway.
Overall, I'd say it was even better than Spiderman. A+.
